The devotion to Our Lady of Atalaia keeps alive in Alcochete a tradition with more than five centuries. Based on the maritime roots of this people who for years found in Tejo their form of sustenance, this party has been maintained by seafarers or boatmen, who through oral tradition, have kept it alive until our days. The beginning of the festivities is marked by the music of the "Chininá", bagpipers and box-boxers who walk the streets of the village on Easter Saturday, announcing to all the realization of another Círio dos Marítimos de Alcochete. On the afternoon of Easter Sunday, the first procession of the Círio takes place, which in addition to the local people attracts many strangers to the riverside village. This parade of single and married, mounted on donkeys, runs through the main streets of the village on the second and the following Tuesday.
